Lending money and dignity-Kiva

This is very interesting and if it scales well it could prove to be the hand up that many people need versus the hand outs that they often receive instead. The difference may seem trivial but the outcomes are not. Hand ups help people become self-reliant and are empowering. Hand outs teach people to become reliant and are disempowering.

Peer-to-peer micro lending definitely has promise and perhaps one day it will scale up and larger sums will be lent out to those starting businesses etc.
